Basics (Open to all levels)

This class is for those beginning their Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey or experienced practitioners looking to ease back into training. Our beginner program teaches the foundational movements of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the core self defence concepts. The focus of this class is on building strong fundamental techniques and since safety is our number one concern, there is no competitive sparring in this class.

Jiu Jitsu Class (Open to all levels)

The Jiu Jitsu Class is our core class offering. Students commence the first part of this class with individual warm up exercises and technical revision. Beginners are guided and prepared for positional training while those with a solid foundation may play with higher level techniques; and explore advanced sequences.

We then begin with positional training/situational drills. This means we practice live resistance training but only from certain positions. In this type of training you start out in a certain position or situation and define specific end points where you reset and start again. Being this specific allows us to explore a position much more deeply and is the best introduction to regular sparring training.

The final portion of the class is dedicated to technical instruction. We firmly believe in the power of strong fundamentals, both for those just starting out and for those who have been training for years. In this part of the class, we teach the concepts and techniques with the highest percentage of success and delve into the details that allow you to execute them even better.

Experienced students may stay after this class for free sparring/live practice.

Sparring (Minimum of 6 months positional sparring experience required)

This is a structured class that is primarily a sparring session (also known as 'rolling' in BJJ). Each student adapts his training volume and intensity to his will, physical conditions, or state of injury.

Open Mat

Open mat is a time when you can come to the gym, and there is no set class, but the mats are “Open” for you to use. It is the perfect time to meet up with your friends and bond over your love for the game. Since there is not a structured class to plan around it is often a much more casual environment. Expect to see lot's of rolling (sparring), some drilling and talking. It's a great time to get to know your teammates. You can train as little or as much as you wish or simply just come to watch.

Private lessons are also available. For more information, contact us at info@shibusajj.com.au
